چکیده

The majority of prior research and analysis has indicated driver-related factors as the main cause of most commercial vehicle-related crashes. The main goal of the current project is to provide a greater concentration on the commercial driver in order to have the most significant impact on the number of crashes. The ultimate outcome of this study is to save lives, prevent injuries, and prevent property damage associated with commercial vehicle-related crashes. To accomplish this crash reduction goal, the current study combines and expands on two previous research efforts -the development of the Inspection Selection System, and a project analyzing the use of driver traffic conviction data to better identify high safety risk motor carriers. To accomplish the greater focus on the commercial driver, the first objective of the current project was to further analyze the data and weightings associated with the carrier driver conviction measure created through the conviction data study. Utilizing the results of this first objective, the second objective of the present project was to then integrate the carrier driver conviction measure into the current Inspection Selection System and conduct a pilot test of this new ISS algorithm, termed ISS-D. Results from the pilot test indicate an approximate 10 percent increase in driver out-ofservice rates after the ISS-D algorithm implementation. In addition, there was an almost doubling of the driver out-of-service rate when ISS-D recommended the inspection.

Analysis of Drivers' Behavior using Manchester Driver Behavior Questionnaire Based on Roadside Interview in Iran

Drivers' behavior is one of the most important factors in traffic safety. Understanding of this issue and its effective factors can be helpful to reduce the influences of human factors on traffic accidents. The objective of this study is to apply Manchester driver behavior questionnaire (DBQ) to a group of drivers who have overtaken on two-lane rural roads and to analyze their behavior. Also, t...

Protective and dosimeter design of the stationary and mobile model truck inspection system with electron linear accelerator radiation source

In this work, calculations of leaked dose from vehicle inspection area, the absorbed dose by driver and operator, and the required concrete thickness for shielding the inspection area are presented using the Monte Carlo code MCNPX2.6. The X-ray source of the present vehicle inspection system is a LinatronMi6 accelerator, end of which has only been simulated in this study (the electron beam coll...

The Safety Level of Railway Infrastructure and Its Correlation with the Cost of Preventive and Mitigation Measures

This paper develops a methodology which allows the correlation between the cost which is required for the application of preventive and mitigation measures dealing with accidents which occur within a railway system and the improvement of the level of safety as a result from their implementation. The safety level is expressed either quantitatively, by the decrease of “fatality risk” indicator...

The Effect of Roadside Elements on Driver Behavior and Run-Off-the-Road Crash Severity

Roadside vegetation provides numerous environmental and psychological benefits to drivers. Previous studies have shown that natural landscapes can effectively lower crash rates and cause less stress and frustration to the driver. However, runoff the road crashes resulting in a collision with a tree are twice as likely to result in a fatality, thus reinforcing the need to examine the placement o...
